The Ford Shelby GT350R is helping find a cure for diabetes.

The American automaker donated the first production Shelby GT350R to the Barrett-Jackson auction this weekend with all the proceeds going to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). Despite just making its debut earlier in the week at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, Ford moved quickly to help ensure the Shelby GT350R’s hype would bring in the most money possible for charity.

As a result, the Shelby GT350R sporting VIN#001 has sold for $1 million trumping other big-name auctions this weekend including the first production Cadillac CTS-V ($170,000) and the first production Chevrolet Corvette Z06 convertible ($800,000).

Powered by a 5.2-liter flat-plane V8 engine, the Shelby GT350R will make over 500 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque and will be available in limited quantities later this year.
